The needle of time moved quickly through the seasons
That brought me to this moment that age calls fifty-five
I’ve lived through frazzled decades, wild adventures
and countless milestones that filled the hours in my years.
Lately, my world’s grown quiet, largely by circumstance
but mostly by my own design.
I crave the beauty of stillness that drowns out all the noise,
So many voices scrambling to be heard made it hard to hear
the soft whispers of my soul.
Here in the stillness of midlife waits new freedoms and a quiet reckoning,
Deeper truths and questions this season beckons you to hear.
‘Did you catch up to your passions and aspirations?
Or have they faded into dusty dreams?
Have you found the missing pieces of you lost along the way
While juggling masks you once needed to wear
To feel safe, to fit in, to be loved and to belong?
Did you make peace with your past, and forgive your mistakes?
Did you find the courage to let your crutches fall away
And step into the clearest version of you -
Those quirky, creative, funny, curious, imperfect qualities
That make you so uniquely you?’
I pondered all these questions over recent years
Then started living bravely through all the noise and fears
Now, as I stare into the distance wondering what’s still to come
I’m leaving space for new chapters in my story that’s still unfolding.
In the waiting seasons, I breathe deeply through the ebbs and flows
Allowing grace and faith and wisdom to fill the stillness and anxious unknowns
As I travel gently through the joys, the heartache and mysteries flowing
through these quieter, precious mid-life years.
